PubMed, the Internet portal of biomedical and life sciences literature, indexed an interesting article, entitled “Cavernous mesenteric lymphangioma” (Eur Radiol. 2006 May 13). Authors are Jeong WK, Kim Y, Song SY et al, from the Department of Diagnostic Radiology, Armed Forces Capital Hospital, Bundang-gu, Sungnam, Republic of Korea. The authors describe a case of mesenteric lymphangioma, a very rare disease in adults that is considered to be a developmental abnormality. Since treatment involves complete excision of the mass to prevent recurrence, it is important to understand the exact extent of the tumor prior to surgery. Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) is the most useful preoperative approach for diagnosis and surgical planning. To access the abstract of the article, click here.
