On 31 August 2006, a new orphan medicinal product was registered into the community register of orphan medicinal products under the EU orphan designation number number 399. The active ingredient is mecasermin rinfabate for prevention of retinopathy of prematurity in neonates of less than 32 weeks of gestational age.
